Connecting a custom domain

Point a root domain or subdomain at StaticHero, with provider-specific tips and troubleshooting.

Custom domains are available on paid plans: up to 5 on Starter, 15 on Pro and 50 on Business, counted across all your sites.

1. Add the domain

Open your site → Domains → enter the domain → Connect. For root domains, leave “also redirect www” ticked to send www. visitors to the root.

2. Create the DNS record

You’re connectingRecord typeNameValue
Root domain (example.com)A@the IP shown in your dashboard
Subdomain (www, blog, shop)CNAMEthe subdomainthe target shown in your dashboard

Remove any other A or AAAA records for the same name.

3. Wait for verification

We check every few minutes and email you when the domain is active. Click Check to verify immediately. HTTPS certificates are issued automatically on the first request.

Provider notes

  • Cloudflare: set the record to DNS only (grey cloud).
  • GoDaddy / Namecheap: delete the default “parked” A record first.
  • Squarespace / Google Domains: use “Custom records”.

Troubleshooting

  • Points to another address — an old record still exists.
  • No DNS records found — the record hasn’t propagated yet, or the name is misspelled.
  • Email stopped working — only change website records; leave MX records alone.
