Marketplace downloads usually contain documentation, licences and the actual site in a subfolder. If the site files are in a folder like template/ or html/, upload just that folder (or ZIP it on its own) so index.html sits at the top.
Editing text without a code editor

Remove any JavaScript validation that expects a PHP response (often a class like php-email-form) or set _redirect to a thank-you page. Then point the action at /_forms/contact.
