Template marketplaces are full of beautiful HTML sites. Getting one online is quick once you know where the gotchas are.
1. Find the actual site folder
Unzip the download. Most templates include documentation, licence files and sometimes source files (SCSS, Pug). Look for the folder that contains index.html alongside assets/, css/ or js/. That’s your site.
2. Edit the text
Open the HTML files in any text editor and change headings, paragraphs and images. Or upload first and edit in StaticHero’s browser editor — whichever you prefer.
3. Fix the contact form
Templates commonly ship with forms/contact.php, which needs a PHP server. Change the form tag:
<form action="/_forms/contact" method="post">Many templates also include a JavaScript validator (often a php-email-form class) that expects a specific PHP response. If submitting shows an error, remove that class from the form, or remove the template’s validate.js script.
Add a thank-you redirect if you like:
<input type="hidden" name="_redirect" value="/thanks.html">4. Upload
Zip the site folder (or drag the folder directly) onto a new StaticHero site. It’s live immediately.
5. Polish
- Replace the favicon (
favicon.icoor the<link rel="icon">file). - Update
<title>and<meta name="description">on each page. - Remove pages you don’t need — and links to them.
- Check the licence: most templates require attribution or a purchased licence for commercial use.
