Migration
Migrate a static site from Netlify to StaticHero
Move files, redirects, headers, forms and your domain from Netlify to StaticHero without downtime.
The StaticHero Team · · 1 min read
StaticHero supports the same _redirects and _headers files and understands Netlify form markup, so most static sites move over with no code changes.
1. Get your files
Either run your build locally (npm run build), or open the latest deploy in Netlify and download it.
2. Upload to StaticHero
Create a site and drop the folder in. Your _redirects and _headers files are read automatically.
What’s supported
Status codes (301, 302, 200 rewrites, 404), splats (/* → :splat), placeholders (/:slug) and the ! force flag. Proxying to external URLs, country/language conditions and Netlify Functions are not supported.
3. Check your forms
Forms with data-netlify="true", the netlify attribute or a hidden form-name input are captured automatically. Submit a test on your new statichero.site address and check the Forms tab.
4. Replace functions
If you used Netlify Functions only for forms or email, you can delete them. For other functions, host them on a serverless platform and call them by full URL with CORS enabled.
5. Move the domain
- In StaticHero, add your domain under Domains.
- At your DNS provider, replace Netlify’s records with the one StaticHero shows.
- Wait for the “connected” email, then remove the domain from Netlify.
DNS changes propagate gradually; during that window some visitors reach Netlify and some reach StaticHero — both serve the same site, so there’s no downtime.
